The research was carried out for the purpose of assessing the breeding resources of Kholmogorsky cattle breed in the regions of its breeding in the Russian Federation for the period 2015–2020. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time during the inventory of the breeding stock of the cow population, individuals with different blood shares of Holstein (improving) breed were identified, and individual herds of breeding enterprises of Kholmogorsky cattle were selected to change the status for breeding; the breeding value of seed bulls was assessed and the available seed stocks were determined. Practical significance of the assessment of pedigree resources of Kholmogorsky cattle breed lies in the fact that in accordance with the “Procedure for determining the breed (pedigree) of breeding animals”, adopted by the decision of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, in some breeding herds there is a need to change the status of the original (Kholmogorsky) breed to the upgrading (Holstein) one. The economic component of the scientific research carried out is associated with an increase in both productive and reproductive qualities of individuals in the herds of Kholmogorsky cattle population with high blood relationship to Holstein breed and, ultimately, an increase in the profitability of the dairy industry of enterprises
